LET'S GO BACK... WAY BACK... BACK INTO TIME

"No matter how challenging life may be, at some point it was fun"

.... and now for the first episode of "Catch The Nostalgia". We will be going down memory lane (yeah...right to the 60s). Hehe... don't get me wrong, I do appreciate how far we have come in terms of development, but, sometimes I can't but cast my mind to those good old times and relish those moments. And for those of us who never saw this part of history. It is a nice opportunity to see how far we have come as a country... That said, let us catch some of those moments.

1. 18k Stamp

18k stamp

Yea...do you know with just 18 kobo...(yes 18 kobo) you could send your letter mails to any part of Nigeria and it could take weeks before it gets to the person you sent it to. So if you wanted to visit a relative/friend, you would have to have to wait at least 2 weeks before you get a response. Hehe

2. Fulani Girls

Fulani-Milkmaids (MacMillian things)

Now this should be quite simple. I will give you a hint (they are found on the cover pages of an English text book. which one? - If you know it, comment in the box below)

3. Body No Be Firewood

Jaja Nwachukwu sleeping in a UN conference in 1960

This is no Photoshop (there was none back then to start with). The man sleeping is Jaja Nwachukwu, who happened to be Nigeria's representative to a UN conference in 1960.

4. Tandi Guarana and Fanta Ginger Ale
Fanta Ginger Ale & Tandi

This drinks rocked back then. They are also notable for their crown corks for the then popular 'table soccer' (TS) which is the equivalent of PES 2015 on PS 4 or XBox 360.

5. St. Louis Cube Sugar
st Louis sugar

One of the very few brands who are yet to re-brand. The cubes are rock solid (i don't know about now though). Another good thing about the pack is that was used as a goal post for TS. (Hehe)

6. Nigeria Airways
nigeria-airways-in-kaduna

Yea...there was a time we had a national carrier (without the virgin attached to it) and this used to be one of the very old models sited in Kaduna. Cool right?

7. Lagos to New York for N17,430. What?

Lagos-NY

There was a time when traveling abroad was just like traveling to the east. As in, it was that simple. No visas. Just your cash and off you go. Imagine if there were no visas; trust Naija. We for don miss.

8. Where are the wise men now?
UBA

This used to be the real UBA bank where wise men bank (LoL). Anyway, thanks to the merger or should I say acquisition of UBA by Standard Trust Bank (STB) we now know why the wise men decided to stick with UBA. (LoL)

9. When dressing was dressing
1960 Dressing

Can someone tell me what is wrong with this picture? Answer....nothing. It is simply lovely. This was a period ladies dressed with all modesty unlike what we see now. To these ladies, I say muah.

10. BATA by Choice
Bata by choice

Back in the days. Cortina shoes were the in thing especially in schools. But now, it is but a distant memory as they do not seem to be around anymore. I guess 'china' shoes chased them away plus infrastructural issues.

11. Tree Top
Tree Top drink

Can you still remember this?

12. Olympic Exercise Book
Olympic (OMG)

Oh what an ugly, looking book (LoL). Don't mind me - this book was real quality and it was made in Nigeria by Apex Mill.

13. N1 Naira Note
One Naira

The late Sir Herbert Macaulay adorns the face of the one naira note. This used to be the smallest Naira note before it was changed to coins and yet no coins exist anymore. Seems more like coins are no more legal tender in Nigeria.

14. Can you Guess?
Elephant detergent

Now, I have a question for you. Can you guess who this man, what he is holding and what programme this advert shows on. (comment in the box below)

Hope you enjoyed this edition.
