For the umpteenth time, the government has postponed the NYSC batch A orientation for logistic reasons. This has left many of the prospective corp members frustrated and infuriated.
The problem lies in the fact that it is almost impossible to secure a good job or do a post graduate programme (PG) without tendering an NYSC discharge certificate. What this means is that the affected individual can virtually not advance to the next stage of life unless the person is into person business.
The Batch A (stream 1) will be glad that there frustration was not heightened yet again, by this news. This equally means that the initial 1 month gap between stream 1 and stream 2 has widened. Since it is same Batch A, how will they pass out? Will they pass out same day - meaning stream 1 exceeds a year or stream 2 is less than a year - or will they pass out differently, even though they are same batch?
So the question, "NYSC... Is it by force?" lies in this - should the government tie down the future of young men and women simply because it does not have funds to run the programme? Is there no other way to remedy the situation so that prospective corpers can move on to the next stage of their life? Can the programme be shortened? Can discharge certificates be printed and corps members go their way?
