Was Sean Connery actually the first person to portray as Ian Fleming's James Bond?
Well, in terms of the first actor to portray as James Bond on screen, it was not Sean Connery but Barry Nelson. But this is not the popular James Bond movie that we know today (non Eon production). It was a 1954 adaptation of Ian Fleming's novel "Casino Royale" which aired on the television series Climax.
CBS paid Ian Fleming $1,000 to adapt his novel "Casino Royale" into a 1 hour television series adventure in 1954. The novel was adapted for the American audience to show Bond as an American agent working for combined intelligence. As at that time, James Bond was not popular till President John F. Kennedy listed From Russia With Love (which was later acted by Sean Connery) as one of his ten favourite books in a 1961 Life Magazine article.
The first movie production of James Bond by Eon productions started eight years later with the movie Dr. No and was acted by Sean Connery. This makes Sean the first actor of the James Bond movie series.
