Know what Spoilers are and their functions

Spoilers are aerodynamic devices which are placed on vehicles to help ‘Spoil’ unfavourable air movement across a car’s body while in motion as well as increasing the grip on the road. They can be found sticking out from a car's boot or trunk or at the front of some vehicles. Front spoilers are called Air Dams.

Spoilers can be found at the front and at the back of some cars

at the front and at the back
Spoilers were first introduced to high performance vehicles due to the nature of how fast this cars can be. Light cars are prone to sliding while turning at fast speeds whereas heavy cars have grip but also have difficulty in turning. This is where spoilers came to the rescue. Spoilers apply weight to the car without making it heavy and equally builds better grip on the road. This enables such cars to make such turns at such speeds.

Spoilers are regarded as 'sporty' due to its origin. However, they can also be found on passenger vehicles too.You will notice that some passenger cars have 'sport' attached to its name though many have no aerodynamic benefits. Instead they are mainly for enhancing a car's design.
