Daniel Wroughton Craig was born on March 2, 1968 in Chester, Cheshire, England. He is the current actor to play the role of British Secret agent 007, James Bond. His mother was an art teacher while his father was a landlord of the pubs Ring O' Bells and a Boot Inn.
He started acting in school plays at age 6 and at 16 years old he was admitted into the National Youth Theatre and later accepted into the Guildhall school of music and drama. Craig's first screen role was in The Power of One (1992). He starred with Angelie Jolie in the movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2011). He also featured in a number of dramas and movies prior to his Bond debut. Some of the movies include: Sword of Honour (2001), Road to Perdition (2002), The Mother (2003) among others.
The role of James Bond was contracted to Daniel Craig in 2005 by Eon productions. This makes Daniel Craig to be the first actor to portray as Bond after the Bond series started and after the death of the novel's writer Ian Fleming.
His selection for the role was met with lots of controversy though. Protesters felt the producers had not made the right choice as he (Craig) did not fit the tall, dark Bond being portrayed by previous Bond actors and even threatened to boycott the film in protest. Craig is just 5ft 10" tall making him the shortest Bond previously held by Roger Moore (6.06ft or 185cm) while Sean Connery is the tallest at 189cm or 6.2ft. Despite the protests, Craig got support from all the previous actors to portray same role.
Craig's first Bond movie was Casino Royale (2006). The movie became the highest grossing Bond movie in the Bond series until Skyfall in 2012. It grossed $594,239,066 worldwide. Craig's performance was highly praised after the release. His next Bond movie was Quantum of Solace in 2008. Craig was given the option to act a third Bond movie which he signed to make four more Bond movies. This means he will be the third longest-serving actor to portray as Bond (Eon productions). Roger Moore is the first longest serving while Sean Connery comes second.
Skyfall was Craig's third Bond movie and it was released in 2012 as part of the year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Bond movies which started in 2012 with Dr. No. Skyfall was praised for its performance by critics. It grossed over $1 billion worldwide. This makes it the first Bond movie to attain this figure. The movie was equally the highest-grossing movie in the UK; highest-grossing movie worldwide for both Sony pictures and MGM; second highest-grossing movie of 2012 and the seventh highest-grossing movie at that time (now at 15th as at 2016). Skyfall's soundtrack was sung by Adele.
Spectre is his fourth and latest Bond movie (2015).
Apart from being the shortest of Bonds, he is also the least when it comes to looks.
Other notable movies being acted by Craig are Cowboys and Aliens, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Dream House (all in 2011).
