Real Madrid Are UEFA Champions

Real Madrid are now 11 time champions of the most prestigious cup in club football. They are now winners of the 2015/2016 UEFA Champions League.

A goal from Sergio Ramos from a set-piece looked like Real Madrid were well on their way to winning the trophy. However, changes in the second half by Diego Simeone brought more drive to the Atletico side. Second half substitution, Yannick Carassco, was simply sensational in attack. With much attacking bite, the equaliser finally came from Carassco.
At the end of 30 minutes in extra time of full time, the match was to be decided by a penalty shoot out. The game ended 5 - 3 after Atletico's right back, Juanfran, failed to score as the ball hit the side post.

Atletico had other chances in the match which could have sealed the game. Antoine Griezmann missed a penalty after Torres was brought down by Pepe.

Ronaldo was not in form but his efforts were just enough to guarantee his team's win. He stepped up to play the last penalty kick - with a shot that saw the keeper dive the wrong way. The keeping abilities of Jan Oblak during the penalties was highly questionable as he failed to show any signs of stopping the balls from entering the net.

Coach of Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane, has recorded a major feat to his coaching career. In just his first year he has won the highest club trophy any manager can possibly win and what many managers have longed to grasp.

In a game of football, no officiating is perfect though today's was quite fair. Issues raised during the match were:
- the Sergio Ramos 'offside goal' (though replays show he had no contact with the ball)
- the penalty that was awarded to Atletico for a foul made on Torres.

The UEFA campaign for 2015/2016 has ended marking the end of another football season. Though this night is filled with much joy as well as agony, at the end it is a win-win for Spain. Next football action is the 2016 Euro Cup. Watch out for the big names.

Congratulations Real Madrid - 2015/16 UEFA Champions League Winner
